Year 5 at Holy Rood

“In Year 5, we do lots of different subjects, not just English and Maths. We do a range of subjects form Art to PE (Physical Education). Every lesson we do puts a huge smile on my face and makes me feel good. We also have a break and lunch time each day. In this time, children are encouraged to make friends and play. We also have Religious Education lessons, as we are a Catholic school. During Advent, we celebrate the coming of Christ and light a candle on our Advent wreath every week. The teachers are lovely and teach us very well. Such an amazing school!” – Lily

“In Year 5 we take part in lots of different sports. If you like football, then you are in luck, as there is girls’ football club on Monday and boys’ football on Wednesday. We also learn tag-rugby, which is great exercise. There are different clubs after school most days if you wanted to attend. These include netball, Makaton, tennis, Irish dancing and karate.”  -  Jessica

“One of the things that we do in Year 5 is Chaplaincy. You might ask what Chaplaincy is? It is a job for people who will guide others and help them to build their relationship with God.” – Amelka

“In Year 5 we do many different subjects. One of my personal favourites was learning about World War II and writing non-chronological reports on the subject. Through learning about life during this time, we were well prepared for reading Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Friend or Foe’ which is set in the 1940’s during World War II.”  – Aaron

“In Year 5 we have been taught to grow independence and confidence. Throughout the year, we have been taking on many new challenges and gaining experience. We are encouraged to try our best in every lesson and to work independently and develop new skills.” - Clara
